A great 's-Hertogenbosch coalition Kade & Co: Buro Kade as initiator and architect, ECLECT for the hospitality concept, Piqet Development as developer, Alba Concepts for sustainability and circularity, Aannemersbedrijf M.P. Drijvers for the realization of the project, MTD landscape architects for the design of the (roof) landscape, Goudstikker de Vries for the monumental and bio-based construction, and Bouwnext for the sustainable energy concept. Cees van Balen, entrepreneur behind Barkade and Losjes, is involved in the programming as a co-investor.
MTD Landscape Architects will contribute to the development of an integrated vision for the industrial heritage and, in particular, to a design for a rooftop landscape on the Molengebouw. A leafy rooftop garden will be developed on top of the former industrial building, which will not only provide a unique place to spend time but also connect the Molengebouw landscape-wise with the Dieze River, the quay, and the city.
The rooftop garden is conceived as a city balcony on the Dieze; a green meeting place within the industrial heritage of the Tramkade. A place to linger, meet each other, and look out over the surroundings. In this way, the landscape becomes an integral part of the monument's transformation, building upon the distinctive, creative character that the Tramkade has acquired in recent years.
The Molengebouw will house, among other things, a hostel, various creative functions in the plinth, and workspaces for a new generation of urban makers. The ambition goes beyond restoring a building: heritage, entrepreneurship, culture, and social innovation are brought together in one vibrant ecosystem. The Archipel will occupy a prominent place within the Molengebouw. Within this space, the youth organizations of Den Bosch, Denboschofwa, Jamkade, Den Bosch E-Sports, Stoom, Open Up, Zinnig Zuiden, Bossche Boiler, and School des Levens DB, are collaborating on a place for initiative, experimentation, and urban culture for the younger generation of 's-Hertogenbosch.
The agency views it as a great challenge to get involved in the project!
