The remarkable transformation of the once-hidden Fort Isabella has resulted in a cultural-historic, open and green mixed-use area for living and working, where vitality, livability, and social cohesion take center stage. The unique qualities of Fort Isabella have also been recognized by the Bosch Architecture Initiative. Yesterday, during the BAI Award 2026 ceremony, this special part of Vught was awarded the Public Choice Prize in the category Urbanism and Landscape. A remarkable recognition of the plans developed by MTD Landscape Architects for this former military site.

With a diverse program including housing, creative businesses, healthcare organizations, hospitality, and—last but not least—a farm shop, Fort Isabella has evolved into a vibrant place for residents, entrepreneurs, and visitors from the region. A place where heritage and new dynamics come together.

MTD Landscape Architects is proud to have been involved in this development since 2017—from the initial landscape and urban vision to the realization of the public realm design. It is rewarding to see this collective effort receive the recognition it deserves. Many thanks to everyone who voted for this project, thanks to all partners for the great collaboration—and congratulations on this special award!

Fort Isabella was realized through an intensive collaboration between client Bella Rocks B.V. / Isabella Groep B.V., MTD Landscape Architects (landscape and urban design), architecture firms Wakker Architecten (renovation of existing buildings) and HILBERINKBOSCH Architecten (new buildings and parking garage), developer inspire* real estate, and contractors De Bonth van Hulten (Royal VolkerWessels) and RA+ Ingenieurs.
